‘It’s a magnificent film’: James Gunn makes one last attempt to ensure ‘The Flash’ doesn’t flop

The new DCU boss doubles down on the hype.

For better or worse, and despite a lackluster promo campaign plagued with disappointing developments — mixed reviews being the least of them — The Flash is coming out in a few days, and James Gunn is trying to make sure that you show up for that big opening weekend.

Ever since taking over the DCU, Gunn has slowly dismantled the old DCEU guard in an effort to completely reboot the franchise from the ground up. And though we applaud him for that decision, the Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker can’t exactly behave as if the remaining DCEU films — like The Flash — don’t exist.

But for some unfathomable reason, or perhaps mere courtesy toward a franchise he now has to head, Gunn continues to insist that The Flash is one of the best superhero movies he’s ever seen.

Ignoring all the reviews that argue to the contrary, the director took to Twitter to say the Ezra Miller flick is a “magnificent” outing.

Some users claimed James Gunn appeared discomfited during The Flash premiere, almost as if he had no wish to be there, but we’ve long since learned to dismiss the social media inclination to read too much into everything.

Then again, maybe you can give some merit to Gunn’s admiration when a lot of his colleagues in Hollywood seem to mirror him these days. I mean, Tom Cruise went out of his way to call up the producer and heap praise on the film for a whopping 15 minutes, so there must be something there, even if the movie’s production value, specifically its CGI, is still subject to ridicule.

In any event, you can ascertain all these claims for yourself when The Flash premieres across the United States theater chains in three days.
