With Jose Padilha‘s Robocop eyeing an August 2013 release, casting news only increases anticipation as another top-notch talent is set to share screen time with Robocop incarnate Joel Kinnaman.

Deadline has just reported that our newest Freddy Kruger, Jackie Earle Haley, has officially joined Robocop in the role of Maddox – a man who will train Robocop on military matters.

Haley joins an A-list cast already boasting the aforementioned Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Hugh Laurie, Samuel L. Jackson and Abbie Cornish.  Funny man Jay Baruchel‘s name has also been dropped as circling a role for the sci-fi reboot, but details on which character he could possibly play have yet to be divulged.

After breaking out as Kelly Leak in the original Bad News Bears, Haley has gone on to play an interesting collection of characters, including getting behind Rorschach’s mask in 2009’s Watchmen.

So, are Robocop fans excited for yet another big casting addition?  And while we’re at it, are there any speculative thoughts as to whom Baruchel could be portraying?
