One of the more anticipated shows coming to Disney Plus this fall is the Star Wars series Skeleton Crew. For the most part, little has been revealed about it, other than it’s something of a Star Wars version of Lost in Space but with a crew of mostly kids. The main role belongs to Jude Law, though he definitely is not a kid.
Last night in Edmonton, as the Oilers played the Golden Knights, Jaleel White was humorously spotted at the Rogers Arena during the “Separated at Birth” segment that shows people in the audience who look like celebrities or famous characters. When Steve Urkel of the 1990s show Family Matters came on the screen, people were not expecting the audience member who looks like him to actually be Jaleel White, but there he was in an Oilers jersey (Connor McDavid jersey, to be exact) while happily eating popcorn and laughing at being on the jumbotron.
Later, he was invited to be a part of one of the intermissions where he was quickly interviewed, and when asked if he was involved in any current projects, White said, “I’m actually gonna be in a new series on Disney Plus starring Jude Law called Skeleton Crew.”
Any Star Wars fan watching Sportsnet’s coverage of the Oilers game likely jumped out of their seat. White added that it’s coming out in “November/December.”
It’s an odd way for Star Wars fans to find out that White is now a part of the Star Wars universe. The versatile actor is also a writer and producer but is still more widely associated with his Family Matters award-winning role as Steve Urkel, who practically stole the show whenever he was onscreen.
It’s highly unlikely he will play a Star Wars character who stumbles, fumbles, tumbles, then asks, “Did I do that?” In fact, White actually said he is playing a pirate in the series and that it required “two hours of makeup every day.” Skeleton Crew will also star Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Tunde Adebimpe, and Kerry Condon.
White was also interviewed during the game by Jessica Kent but mostly gave the same info, though when asked if his daughter ever asks him to do his Urkel voice, White said, “Absolutely not. My daughter is 13 years old. The last thing she wants is me showing up to her school in suspenders.”
For what it’s worth, White’s support of the Oilers may have been a good luck charm as Edmonton tied their series with the Vegas Golden Knights in a 4-1 win that, indeed, saw Connor McDavid make the difference with 2 points on 2 assists.
