For Avatar fans who thought they were only going to step back into the world of Pandora for two more adventures, we have some exciting news for you. Sigourney Weaver has told Showbiz 411 that she will appear in three new Avatar sequels which will shoot back to back, as soon as James Cameron is ready to go.
Considering how much post production work there is to do and all the other actors’ schedules that Cameron has to work in, the tentative 2014 release date is very unlikely. I’m thinking it will be more like 2015 before audiences finally see it.
Cameron has said previously that Avatar 2 will primarily take place in the seas of Pandora, so one wonders what other environments he will introduce in Avatar 3 and 4.
Personally, I’m not too excited about this. I thought the first Avatar was very derivative and overly long but I do understand that there is a big fan base out there. Plus, $2.7 billion isn’t something to be sneered at.
The choice to shoot these films at the same time is a wise move for Fox, but also a very big commitment. I have no doubt, however, that they will more than make their money back and could possibly throw in a few bonuses as well.
The only element that concerns me here is the quality of the script writing. Mainly, will all three films be up to a usable standard by the time they start shooting? James Cameron‘s biggest downfall is his rotten dialogue and a lack of ability to reign himself in.
We can only hope that he has learnt some lessons from the first Avatar movie, but you know what they say about old dogs right?
