James Gunn ‘blown away’ by ‘Superman: Legacy’ auditions

Maybe we can all relax.

James Gunn is well and truly in the process of casting the new Superman for his DCU and judging by his reaction to the latest round of auditions, things are going well.

Gunn gushed over the talent that has come out to audition for Superman in a post to the social network Bluesky. The DC Films boss claimed that the talent included some of the best actors he has ever seen.

“Amazing amazing weekend of auditions for Superman: Legacy. I’m blown away by some of these actors, among the best I’ve ever seen or worked with.”

For DC fans worried about who will take up the mantle of Superman next, this sort of glowing review should provide some relief, however, we’re likely still a while from finding out who exactly will become the next Man of Steel. It also isn’t clear exactly what roles were auditioned for over the weekend, so it’s a promising time for Lois Lane as well.

Gunn is in the process of narrowing down his list of stars up for the role but there is plenty of time for him to work. As it stands, Superman: Legacy, which will kick start the DCU isn’t planned to release until 2025.

The first addition to the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters will boast a younger Superman than we are used to seeing on the big screen. Of course, this rules out many big-name stars but leaves room for newcomers to grow into the role and make it their own.

Over the last few months, there have been plenty of rumors flying around of who exactly could meet this criteria with frontrunners including Nicholas Hoult, Tom Brittney, and David Corenswet. At this stage, it could be absolutely anyone so DC fans should hold off on getting their hopes up for any particular name until we have more news.

Superman: Legacy is set to land on July 11, 2025.
