Having arguably been too online for a long time, James Gunn announced to the world a while back that he would be stepping away from the world of debunking unfounded rumors regarding projects he was involved with on a creative level, which was always only going to be temporary given that Superman: Legacy was lurking just over the horizon.
Sure enough, the Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran and co-CEO of DC Studios has risen like phoenix from the ashes to spread his wings, and soar right into the thick of the never-ending scuttlebutt. With his impending Man of Steel reboot loading up its cast with a bevvy of heroes from the comic book company’s past and present, it was inevitable that the biggest bad of them all would be a source of much speculation.
The latest hypothetical candidate to be thrown into the mix for Lex Luthor is none other than former James Bond Daniel Craig, but when questioned directly on Threads as to whether or not there was a shred of truth to the story being widely circulated around the internet, the Guardians of the Galaxy creator quite simply said; “That is not true.”
We might be getting Isabela Merced’s Hawgirl, Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho, but we won’t be seeing Craig’s Lex Luthor. Of course, Superman’s arch-nemesis will factor into Legacy as the principal antagonist given that Gunn has made it clear he’s aiming to tell a classic Big Blue Boy Scout story, but we can at least eliminate one name from the never-ending list of contenders that social media keeps expanding on a daily basis.
