James Gunn Hints At A Larger Role For Gamora In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

Zoe Saldana's green-skinned alien warrior, Gamora, was arguably the least developed of the five members of the team in the first Guardians of The Galaxy movie, but that all changed with an expanded role in Vol. 2. The actress was given much more to work with and a far stronger arc this time around, and "the most dangerous woman in the universe" ended up emerging as one of the Marvel sequel's many highlights.

Zoe Saldana’s green-skinned alien warrior, Gamora, was arguably the least developed of the five members of the team in the first Guardians of The Galaxy movie, but that all changed with an expanded role in Vol. 2. The actress was given much more to work with and a far stronger arc this time around, and “the most dangerous woman in the universe” ended up emerging as one of the Marvel sequel’s many highlights.

Director James Gunn recently announced that he would return to helm a third film in the mega-popular franchise, and it sounds like the character is going to be taken to some very interesting places in the next instalment. During an interview with USA Today, Gunn was quizzed about where he’s at with Vol. 3, and even though he didn’t go into much detail, he did confirm that he’s been having “some pretty intense conversations” with Saldana about her playing a significant role in the film. Though he didn’t elaborate, we can hazard a guess as to why Gamora might be given a slightly darker edge following the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

In Vol.2, we find out some of the reprehensible things that Thanos did to Gamora and her adoptive sister Nebula in order to maintain their loyalty, and because of this there’s been some speculation that one or both of them will wind up taking down the Mad Titan in the movie. Gamora may have no love for Thanos, but that doesn’t mean she’d walk away completely unscathed if she were to play a role in his destruction. Of course, that’s just one theory, and it’s probably way off – but either way, it’s nice to hear that the character will continue to be developed to a satisfying degree as the MCU moves forward.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to his US theaters this weekend and in case you’re still on the fence about it, you can check out our review of the film right here.
