James Gunn recently caused a stir in the Marvel community by admitting that the lore and origins of the Infinity Stones — you know, the basis upon which pretty much the entirety of the MCU’s Infinity Saga is built — was just some, in his words, “bulls***” he pulled out the air when writing the first Guardians movie. The director was probably relieved not to have to feature the gems in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, then, although the least he could’ve done was clear up this big mystery.
As you can’t have failed to miss, Adam Warlock has been the source of a lot of scrutiny in the wake of the threequel’s release, thanks to his childlike, comedic persona being at odds with his comic book portrayal. The biggest change from the source material, though, is the fact that he no longer has the Soul Stone lodged in his noggin, with his look instead completed by a similar golden gem worn on his forehead. But if it’s not the Soul Stone then what the heck is it?
Sadly, Guardians 3 provides zero context for the replacement piece of jewelry, with Redditor u/Ironbanner987615 taking to the r/MarvelStudios sub in a bid to find out the answer.
Unfortunately, it seems no one else knows either, with the resulting replies instead leaning towards the humorous instead of helpful. Maybe Ayesha is just one of those “crystal healing types?”

With Will Poulter’s redeemed hero no doubt going on to be the literal golden boy of the cosmic corner of the MCU going forward, hopefully we’ll find out more about the source of his power in time (or Space, or Power, or Mind ETC).
