James Gunn Wrote Some Dialogue For Avengers: Infinity War

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo had a monumentally difficult task in bringing every single hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe together in Avengers: Infinity War. It’s not surprising, then, that they discussed the different characters’ arcs in the film with other Marvel directors such as Ant-Man‘s Peyton Reed and Doctor Strange‘s Scott Derrickson. Until now, though, we didn’t know how much these collaborators had to do with the film.

As reported by SuperBroMovies, Dave Bautista – who plays Drax the Destroyer – was taking part in a Q&A at Awesome Con this past weekend when he revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn actually wrote some of the team’s dialogue in Infinity War. We already knew that Gunn was to have an executive producer credit on the movie and now we know the full extent of his input.

This news makes a lot of sense. Arguably more so than any other Marvel sub-franchise, the success of Guardians of the Galaxy owes a lot to one single filmmaker. Back in the team’s 2014 debut, Gunn took a bunch of characters little-known outside of hardcore comic book fans and was able to adjust their personalities and write them with his own distinct sense of humour. It’s only natural, then, that screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus required a little help from him to nail the characters’ unique way of speaking.

The Russos have previously promised us that the Guardians will have “a great role” in Infinity War and will be a much more close knit team than we’ve seen them in their past two films. That makes sense, considering this team-up movie is set four years after Vol. 2. That said, Chris Pratt has warned fans that the Guardians will take more of a backseat to the Avengers in the film.

We’ll see for ourselves just how involved in the fight against Thanos they are when Avengers: Infinity War hits cinemas later this month, on April 27th.
