The first post was in response to a message from a Twitter user telling “white men haters” that they’re “not welcome at cinemas for Captain Marvel,” to which Woods responded:

“Okay. We will be happy to sit this one out then…”

The 71-year-old actor then followed up his tweet with a “distracted boyfriend” meme where the man is checking out Alita: Battle Angel and ignoring Captain Marvel, adding the following comment:

“When you have a choice, pick a movie where the studio doesn’t hate half its audience…”

Just last month, Woods drew criticism over a tweet making similar remarks about The Walking Dead, referring to the show as an “all-chick zombie series” and an “estrogen fest.”

Despite some online backlash, Captain Marvel is currently on course to do very well for itself when it arrives in theaters a few days from now. More than two weeks ahead of the film’s release, Fandango reported that the flick had already surpassed Aquaman and Wonder Woman in advance ticket sales, and it’s since been announced that the movie has outdone Thor: Ragnarok in IMAX pre-sales.

The film has also been the subject of some impressive domestic opening weekend projections, with Researcher Exhibitor Relations’ predicting a haul of $118 million, while Box Office Pro has the figure at $160 million. As for critical reception, the early social media response suggests that the feature will be the subject of a whole load of praise when the review embargo lifts tomorrow morning. All in all, things are looking promising for Captain Marvel right now, but the real test comes when the film hits theaters on March 8th.
