Jamie Foxx Is On The Hunt In First Trailer For Sleepless

Though his career is far from stalled, Jamie Foxx's upwards trajectory that started with Ray back in 2004 has considerably slowed down. After his Oscar win for Taylor Hackford's biopic, he had a few memorable roles in films like Dreamgirls, Law Abiding Citizen, Horrible Bosses and The Kingdom, but most of what he put out was ultimately filed under the "forgettable" category.

Stuff like Rio (and its sequel), Valentine’s DayThe Soloist and Due Date failed to leave much of an impact on audiences or critics. They probably netted the actor a healthy paycheque, but they certainly weren’t worthy of his undeniable talents. 2014 was the last time we saw Foxx on screen, in the wholly mediocre Annie, and though he’s been gone for quite a while, 2017’s looking like his comeback year.

Aside from a sizeable role in Robin Hood: Origins, not to mention a part in Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, Foxx will also appear in Sleepless for Open Road, which has just premiered its first trailer today. Though it’s hardly one to stop the presses, the film looks like a fairly competent thriller that has the actor playing an undercover cop on the hunt for his kidnapped son.

While the February 24th release date is a bit worrying, we’re certainly happy with what we see in the trailer. Foxx looks suitably badass in the role, and the whole thing has a bit of a Taken vibe to it, promising a gritty action thriller that just may light a spark under the usually tepid winter box office season. Cliched though it may be, we’re still expecting a perfectly entertaining flick with this one.

But don’t take our word for it. Check out the trailer for yourself above and form your own opinion on whether or not Sleepless will be a return to form for Jamie Foxx.
