Jamie Foxx is all set to star opposite Beasts of the Southern Wild’s, Quvenzhané Wallis, in Sony’s upcoming Annie remake, which is set to be directed by Will Gluck. The actor will take on the role of Daddy Warbucks (the man who adopts Annie), who has been aptly re-named Benjamin Stacks for the remake.

The film will mark yet another collaboration between Foxx and Sony, as he is also starring in their upcoming action film White House Down as well as next year’s sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Though exact plot details aren’t known at this time, we do know that the remake will draw from both the hit Broadway musical as well as the original comic strips, so expect the story to stay mostly true to the source material.

As for the music, while I’m sure all the classic songs will make a return, Jay-Z is said to be producing some new music for the film. It should be quite interesting to see how those tracks fit into the new remake.

Foxx is on a hot streak right now, thanks to an excellent performance in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. Once White House Down and Marc Webb’s Spidey sequel hit theatres, his stock will rise even higher. Joining the Annie remake is a good move on his part, as it’s shaping up to be a high profile film that is catching the attention of many. Though his career did hit a bit of a rough patch for a few years, with duds like Valentine’s Day, Due Date and Rio littering up his resume, it looks like the Oscar winning actor is back in full force, and I could not be happier.

Annie is set to head into production this Fall for a Christmas 2014 release, with Will Smith and Jay-Z set to act as producers. What do you think about Jamie Foxx joining the film? Let us know in the comments.
