News came down today from Variety that Sony Pictures is looking to cast Jamie Foxx as Spider-Man’s next foe in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the sequel to this year’s blockbuster hit.
Foxx is reportedly in “early talks” with Sony to play Electro, Spider-Man’s nemesis who gains the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning. All of this bodes well for the production, which has already signed on both of the leading actors from the first film as well as Shailene Woodley to play the role of Peter Parker paramour, Mary-Jane Watson.
Foxx himself provided plenty of fuel for speculation by tweeting “Dressed up as Electro last night for Halloween. Costume fits well.” Empire Magazine also tweeted that director Webb is “really excited about that prospect.”
With all sides looking as though they’re ready to make a deal there’s good reason for Spider-Man fans to get excited. It’s in Sony’s best interest to keep things proceeding apace seeing as how the first Amazing Spider-Man grossed $751 million worldwide.
I know that I, for one, will be eagerly anticipating The Amazing Spider-Man 2 when it opens May 2, 2014. Will you?
