Earlier this month, we reported that Sony Pictures was eyeing actor Jamie Foxx for the role of Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. While director Marc Webb has since confirmed that Foxx is his top choice for the role, the actor recently spoke with Access Hollywood and said that although he’s interested, nothing has been finalized.

On the casting Foxx said:

[It’s] in the works…Fingers crossed it all works out…I have a little daughter, four years old, and what’s crazy is like, this past year she had a birthday where Spider-Man was the theme… I haven’t sprung it on her yet, but she will go crazy!”

One of the more prominent villains in Spider-Man’s rogues’ gallery, Electro’s real name is Max Dillon; an electrical lineman who gained the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning while working on a power line.

Foxx’s casting comment comes hot on the heels of yesterday’s report that the studio was looking to cast the role of Harry Osborn next; Peter Parker’s close friend and son of Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis, the Green Goblin. Whoever lands their respective roles, they’ll be joining Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Shailene Woodley in the sequel to this year’s blockbuster hit.

I know some people who have issues with Jamie Foxx‘s potential casting as Electro, but I happen to think it’s a good choice. He’s a solid actor who’s done some great work with not-so-great material. It’s exactly the type of actor that you want handling a role like this.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters on May 2, 2014. Let us know in the comments what you think of Foxx as Electro.
