Jason Momoa Promises “Badass” Aquaman, Wants Zack Snyder To Direct Solo Film

Jason Momoa recently appeared at the Comic-Con Experience in Sao Paulo, Brazil and opened up a bit about his upcoming role as Aquaman in the burgeoning DC Cinematic Universe. Now that the actor has been officially confirmed for the part, he's stopped playing coy about his excitement and has dropped a few hints about what we can expect from his portrayal of the Atlantean hero.

Now, while one could easily imagine what kind of Aquaman film Snyder could make (the visual flare he brought to 300 and Man of Steel‘s Krypton prologue would certainly come in handy for the depiction of Atlantis), I think it’s safe to say that the director has a bit too much on his plate right now to tackle yet another DC property.

He’s just wrapped production on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, is producing the Wonder Woman solo film, and will helm both Justice League projects, which are slated to hit theaters in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Those films are expected to shoot back-to-back, so it’s unlikely that Snyder will have either the energy or the time to commit to helming Aquaman as well.

In any case, it’s great to hear that Momoa has such confidence in Snyder, and it means that he’s happy with the discussions the two have had about Aquaman’s depiction thus far. He may not end up getting his wish of having Snyder direct his solo film, but at least he’ll get to work with him when he teams up with the rest of the DC heroes in the Justice League movies.

Aquaman makes his big screen debut on March 25th, 2016, when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters. Justice League arrives on November 17th, 2017, Aquaman debuts the next year on July 27th, 2018, and Justice League – Part Two is scheduled to arrive on June 14th, 2019.
