Ladies and gentlemen, we present the Marvel and DC crossover movie that you never thought would happen.
Aquaman star Jason Momoa took to Instagram to share a video of his recent encounter with Mark Ruffalo at the New York Comic Con. The short clip sees Momoa pose with a mysterious man in a mask, who takes off his disguise to reveal the spoiler-happy star of next year’s Avengers 4.
After failing to do much Hulking out in Avengers: Infinity War, this video offers a very different and much cheaper kind of Bruce Banner transformation, though after the week he’s just had, you probably can’t blame Ruffalo for wanting to wear a disguise in public for a while.
The actor recently landed himself in hot water with Marvel Studios when he accidentally spoiled the title to the upcoming Avengers 4 on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Though his words were bleeped out for the broadcast (and ultimately uncovered by the fans), directors Anthony and Joe Russo thought it best to ‘fire’ Ruffalo in a presumed joke-tweet, leaving Ruffalo to meekly respond by asking the brothers to reconsider.
Momoa, on the other hand, has had a pretty productive week, with the first image of the star in the classic Aquaman costume making its way online, not to mention a second trailer for Arthur Curry’s solo debut. While Avengers 4 will serve as the biggest crossover spectacle yet for the MCU, James Wan’s relatively self-contained blockbuster seems to represent a necessary step backwards for the DCEU after the messy world-building of the Zack Snyder films suggested a saga that was trying too hard to catch up with the interconnectivity of the Marvel movies.
In any case, you’ll be able to catch Aquaman in cinemas from December 21st, 2018. And assuming Ruffalo hasn’t been dropped from the project, you can him in Avengers 4 from May 3rd, 2019.
