Jason Statham is looking to land a role in Paul Feig’s upcoming spy comedy Susan Cooper, according to Deadline. Already set to reunite the director with his Bridesmaids stars Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrne, the film will see McCarthy playing the titular secret agent and Statham as a fellow colleague.

This news actually leaked out last week when Byrne’s involvement was confirmed, but now we know that it’s official as Statham is indeed in talks with Feig for a role.

Though not much is known about the film just yet, it’s being billed as a “realistic comedy” that the producers hope to turn into a franchise.  It’s still a bit too early to comment on how this one will turn out but Feig is on a serious hot streak when it comes to female led comedies, and reuniting with McCarthy and Byrne seems like a pretty good bet.

As for Statham, as good as he is in his more R rated action fare, he can still be extremely funny at times. Seeing him head to a comedy project is quite refreshing and will likely make for a nice change of pace, seeing as the actor usually gets stuck in the same type of role over and over again.
