Salazer sets sail in this all-new still for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Described as a ghostly pirate who commands a crew of equally-creepy ghost sailors – hence the title – Javier Bardem’s glowering baddie has clawed his way out of the Devil’s Triangle with just one name on his proverbial hit-list: Captain Jack Sparrow. But Salazer is a loose cannon, and his scorched Earth approach has placed every pirate on the seven seas on red alert – and it’s not too difficult to see why.

Donning heavy prosthetics for the part, this isn’t the first time moviegoers have seen Javier Bardem stray into full-blown villain territory; five years ago, the award-winning actor put Daniel Craig’s 007 through his paces in Skyfall, and did so in a manner that was thrilling to watch. Here’s hoping Bardem is able to command the screen once more as Salazer.

To get budding viewers up to speed regarding Dead Men Tell No Tales, Disney recently premiered the sequel’s official synopsis which, unsurprisingly, tees up yet another swashbuckling adventure for Johnny Depp’s Sparrow.

“Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.’ The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazer (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea – notably Jack.

Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Benton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifull small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has never faced.”

Headed up by franchise newcomers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has been penciled in for May 26, 2017. Rubbing shoulders with Depp and Bardem are Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs, Golshifteh Farahani as the sea-witch Shansa, David Wenham as Scarfield, Stephen Graham as Scrum, and Geoffrey Rush as the irreverent Captain Hector Barbossa.
