Considering that Dark Phoenix is looking to be the final X-Men movie to come out of 20th Century Fox prior to the impending Disney acquisition, there’s quite a bit of pressure that’s been lumped onto Simon Kinberg’s ensemble drama.

Be that as it may, the pic is said to be much more realistic than previous entries in the franchise, though it’s tough to see how that’ll be the case given that Fox’s 2019 blockbuster is based on a cosmic, deeply nuanced adventure in the form of “The Dark Phoenix Saga.” Still, that’s what the filmmakers are claiming and while we’ll have to reserve final judgement until this coming summer, the promotional campaign is now beginning to gear up.

After the first trailer landed back in the fall, we’ve got a new international preview to feast on today. Seen up above, it doesn’t offer much in the way of fresh footage aside from a few quick shots here and there, and is mostly the same as what we received in September, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting. Really, despite all the bad buzz that’s been plaguing Dark Phoenix as of late, it actually looks like a decent film.

If nothing else, it’ll surely bring us a much more loyal take on the Dark Phoenix saga than what we got with the messy and overcrowded X-Men: The Last Stand, with Kinberg having already gone on record to insist that he’s learned from the mistakes of that disastrous outing and will be ensuring that the focus remains mostly on Jean’s story.

Still, many fans remain skeptical towards the project, and understandably so, given that the feature’s multiple delays haven’t exactly allayed their fears. While Fox has described the film as a new chapter for the franchise, it’ll probably be more of an end of an era. Regardless, we’ll find out if Dark Phoenix can get folks excited to see those long familiar mutants again when the film hits theaters on June 7th, 2019.
