Jeff Wadlow Will Direct Masters Of The Universe

Sony has been trying to get a live-action He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie made for quite a while now, but hit a bit of a roadblock when Jon M. Chu exited the director's chair to work on G.I. Joe 3 instead. He's since turned his attention to another beloved animated series, Jem and the Holograms, leaving Sony no choice but to look for someone else to bring the movie to life.

UPDATE: THR has confirmed that Wadlow will be re-writing the film, and is not yet signed on to direct.

Sony has been trying to get a live-action He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie made for quite a while now, but they hit a bit of a roadblock when Jon M. Chu exited the director’s chair to work on G.I. Joe 3 instead. He’s since turned his attention to another beloved animated series, Jem and the Holograms, leaving Sony no choice but to look for someone else to fill his shoes.

Back in February, a shortlist of directors emerged, which included The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones helmer Harald Zwart, Chris McKay (who will be directing the LEGO Movie sequel), Another Earth director Make Cahill, and Jeff Wadlow, the man behind Kick-Ass 2.

According to Schmoes Know, the search is finally over as Sony has chosen Wadlow to take over on Masters of the Universe. I cited Wadlow as one of the most likely candidates for the gig when his name first came up, but his involvement with Fox’s in-development X-Force movie suggested that he’d be too busy. Apparently, that isn’t the case, and though we don’t know what will happen with X-Force, Masters of the Universe is expected to begin right away as it already has a script from The Lone Ranger scribe Terry Rossio.

Unfortunately, no casting news has been made available just yet but we’ll be sure to keep you posted when we hear more.

Tell us, what do you think of Wadlow directing the Masters of the Universe movie? Do you think he’s a good choice, or would you prefer to see someone else at the helm of this project? Let us know in the comments below.
