Jeffrey Dean Morgan Says Playing Flashpoint Batman Would Be The Thrill Of A Lifetime

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is already something of a DC hero thanks to his two roles in the superhero universe to date - namely, the Comedian in Watchmen and his cameo as Thomas Wayne in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. But the part that fans really want him to play is Batman himself in the upcoming Flashpoint. And given that he's only human, Morgan has revealed that he'd love to put on the iconic bat-eared costume, too.

And given that he’s only human, Morgan has revealed that he’d love to put on the iconic bat-eared costume, too.

While talking with Total Film, the Walking Dead actor was pressed for info on whether this could actually happen. Obviously, he remained tight-lipped about that, but did make clear that he’s “highly aware” of Flashpoint Batman and admitted that it would be the “thrill of a lifetime” if he got the chance to don the cowl.

“We’ll see. I mean, look, DC is DC, and they’ll figure out what they’re going to do next. But I’m highly aware of the character, I will say that. I’m highly aware of the character, and it would probably be a thrill of a lifetime to put on the Batsuit.”

Flashpoint Batman

In case you’re unaware, the comic book storyline that Flashpoint‘s based on sees Barry Allen create an alternate timeline where, amongst other things, Thomas Wayne became a vigilante after the death of his son Bruce. It seems that this fresh, darker take on the familiar character is what Morgan finds so interesting. He even feels that Thomas’ version is the “coolest” Batman out there.

“And what I know about the Flashpoint Batman is, you know, for me, I think he is not only the darkest of the Batmen, but the coolest. And I love his whole storyline and who he is and the tortured soul of it all.”

So, Morgan is all in, but how likely is it that we’ll get to see him suit up as the alt-Dark Knight? If we’re feeling optimistic, we’d say that there’s been so much talk and excitement from the fans that WB would have to be stupid to not go in this direction. Then again, there was endless buzz about Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern appearing in Justice League and that never happened, so who knows?

All we can say for sure at present is that Game Night‘s Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are set to direct Flashpoint, with Ezra Miller returning to play Barry Allen. For what it’s worth, Miller himself is on board with starring opposite Morgan, so the ball’s really in WB’s court now.
