Jenna Ortega getting even spookier and kookier in ‘Beetlejuice 2’ draws exactly the reaction you’d expect

Twitter celebrates this note-perfect casting news.

Jenna Ortega is cornering the market when it comes to playing spooky goth girl millennial favorites. Fresh from her dazzling performance in Netflix’s Wednesday, she’s now heading towards the long-awaited Beetlejuice 2, where she’ll play the daughter of Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz.

This sequel has been a very long time coming. The 1988 Tim Burton movie launched Michael Keaton to stardom, made a lot of money, and saw a sequel quickly put into development. This was to be called Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian, and would’ve taken the action tropical, concluding with the ghostly antihero winning a surfing contest. Perhaps it’s best that that didn’t get made, but now, more than three decades on from the original, it looks like it may actually be happening.

The news that Ortega will have yet another spooky girl role under her belt has all too predictably caused social media to explode with joy:

This now needs to happen:

Once Tim Burton finds an actor he likes, they do tend to pop up in everything…

She even looks like the Beetlejuice cartoon Lydia:

Is there a danger of Ortega being typecast?

They kid but… we’d watch it:

After Wednesday we’d watch her in anything:

You can currently see Ortega in Scream VI, with the producers of that film likely doing a happy dance when they realized they’d cast the most popular up-and-coming actor just as she made it big. Fingers crossed for more Beetlejuice 2 news soon, but let’s just hope it lives up to the supremely creepy and odd vibe of the original.
