Now that all the casting is taken care of, things are getting underway on Gary Ross‘ The Hunger Games, which is looking at a March 23rd release date. Today, EW is bringing us a first look at Jennifer Lawrence in the role of Katniss Everdeen. With some nifty hair and makeup work, the young actress does indeed look the part, which should please fans. Take note of the bow and arrow on her shoulder as well, a nice touch.
I’m pretty confident that this one is going to be a hit. The studio is hoping for a Twilight-esque franchise out of this and with the cast they’ve chosen, I don’t see why it won’t happen. Perhaps it won’t be as big but I can still see it going over very well, especially with the teens. I haven’t read the books but the plot does sound interesting, similar to Battle Royale which is a great film. So for now, I’m on board with this one.
What about you guys? Do you think Jennifer Lawrence looks the part?
In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch.
