That’s because Fox’s star-studded mutant sequel is about to undergo a series of reshoots in anticipation of its release in February, even if those initial reports claiming that Dark Phoenix was on the verge of a total overhaul were off the mark.

Three weeks ago, it was reported that Simon Kinberg was bracing for around three months of additional photography on X-Men: Dark Phoenix, as the Powers That Be prepared to rework their cosmic-fuelled blockbuster from the ground up. But that’s no longer the case, as it’s more likely that Dark Phoenix‘s reshoots will last around three weeks (and change) as Kinberg and his team begin dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s on their 2019 feature.

Chastain’s latest Instagram post confirms as much, too, where it’s revealed that she’s wrapped on It: Chapter Two (for now) and is now in the process of completing her work as Lilandra (?), the primary villain of X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

It’s unclear exactly what Simon Kinberg and Co. are reshooting, but it’s important to remember Sophie Turner’s recent interview with Digital Spy in which she confirmed that it’s “just a few bits and bobs” that need to be fixed. As for the shift to February, the Game of Thrones actress is hopeful that Dark Phoenix can channel a little magic from Marvel’s Black Panther, which earned big business ($1.3 billion) in the month of February.

I think it’s just a few bits and bobs, reshoot-wise. To be honest, I don’t even know what we’re reshooting at the moment. So I couldn’t really tell you much about that one. All I know is that I’ll be back in Montreal at some point soon, and that the Valentine’s Day release date is quite a positive thing, because Black Panther got released on Valentine’s Day. So we’re keeping positive about it.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is currently scheduled for release on February 14th, 2019… so cancel any Valentine’s Day plans in advance.
