While Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them did enough mega business to justify a sequel during its release in the trash year which was 2016, it seems like Warner Bros. and Potter-verse author J.K. Rowling are confident that Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is also going to get a sequel after fans give Johnny Depp a pass on being a creep.
According to a recent report by Express, Rowling recently changed the header image on her personal Twitter page. When asked what the picture meant, the 53-year-old responded with comments saying it was “Rio da Janerio in the 1930s” and that she “really ought to be able to spell Rio de Janeiro properly, given how many times I’ve written/typed it in the last few months.”
For those unaware, Rowling wrote the script for both the first film and the second and honestly, moving the action to South America for the next installment would be a pretty cool idea. For a series which has hinted at other bastions of magic in the world, we’ve not gotten to see as much as we should.
For one, I’d like to to know what magic is like in Africa, and I’m deeply curious how it works in an ultra-religious society like Vatican City or Afghanistan. Though Dumbledore does play a role in Crimes of Grindelwald, if they want the franchise to steamroll along and keep making money, they just need to keep telling compelling stories unconnected to major characters. After all, Disney showed us with Star Wars that that’s a recipe for trouble.
Regardless, it certainly seems like the series is in good health right now, with many praising Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald as another thrilling adventure in the Wizarding World. And we’ll get to see for ourselves which magical new places it takes us to when the sequel opens big on November 16th.
