Confirming what the entire movie-obsessed world has suspected for several months, Marvel officially went on the record today to announce its directors for the third Avengers event. Anthony and Joe Russo, who blasted their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, are signed on to direct Avengers: Infinity War.

As referenced above, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard the siblings’ name in connection with the two-part threequel. Late last year it was strongly hinted that Joss Whedon, who has sat in the chair on two Avengers movies, was ready to pass on the torch. Fast forward several months and the scoop hounds at Badass Digest unearthed intel that the Russos had closed a deal to direct both parts of the double-whammy blockbuster, and it turns out they were absolutely correct.

In the wake of their enormous success directing Winter Soldier, Marvel signed up the duo to shepherd Cap’s next instalment to the big screen. Captain America: Civil War is currently simmering away in the early stages of production over at Marvel’s new location hub of Atlanta, Georgia, with principal photography expected to kick off shortly. As that movie’s story is said to connect with the events of Infinity War in an integral way, it’s a sensical decision to entrust the beloved lynchpin to the Russos.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 arrives in theaters on May 4, 2018 followed by Part 2 on May 3, 2019. It’s believed that previous Captain America scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will pen both instalments.
