John Boyega Believes Wesley Snipes Should Still Play Blade

With such an expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe currently existing, it may be easy for moviegoers – especially younger ones – to forget how important of a role Blade played in the history of comic book cinema, but those of us who’ve been around a little longer have some pretty fond memories.

Long story short, our favorite vampire hunter, who sadly never showed up to bring The Twilight Saga to a bloody end, stormed onto the scene in the late 1990’s and, in doing so, showed the mainstream that the funny books have more to offer than just Batman and Superman. Really, one could even say that it opened the door for Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and Bryan Singer’s X-Men as the vanguard of a different sort of Marvel Age.

But since Disney acquired the cinematic rights to the Daywalker a few years back, Blade has unfortunately been collecting dust. Still, that doesn’t mean he’s been absent from the hearts and minds of True Believers, especially when you have fans chanting John Boyega’s name in regard to a reboot.

Funny enough, it didn’t take long for such optimism to work its way back to Boyega himself, who had this to say when promoting his upcoming film, Pacific Rim Uprising (via Bloody Disgusting):

“Wesley, man. That’s Wesley for Blade. I would want to see Wesley.”

Personally, I could go either way because I just want to see another Blade movie at some point. Boyega, on the one hand, is a huge rising star and would give the resurrected franchise quite the boost. But on the other, Snipes could still pull it off, at least in my view.

Speaking of which, it’s hard to forget what Snipes himself had to say concerning this very topic not long ago:

“I am very much open to all of the possibilities. If Blade 4 comes along, that is a conversation we can have. And there are other characters in the Marvel universe that, if they want to invite me to play around with, I am with that too. I think the fans have a hunger for me to revision the Blade character, so that could limit where they could place me as another character in that universe.”

Tell us, would you like to see Snipes return as Blade? Or do you think it’s time for some new blood? Let us know in the comments section below!
