In Empire’s 2019 movie preview, it’s claimed that the Finn actor said J.J. Abrams’ next movie will take place one year after the events of The Last Jedi. Without a direct quote, however, some fans thought it best to ask the man himself if this was actually what he said, or if he was simply misinterpreted, to which Boyega responded:

“I don’t even remember having the interview. I’m tired it’s been a long few months.”

Just when we thought that the Lucasfilm cast was finally ready to open up about next year’s release, Boyega goes and muddies the waters again.

That being said, neither Boyega nor anyone else involved in Episode IX has outright denied the time jump, so we can probably keep assuming that Empire’s confirmation is legit, until someone says otherwise. Besides, even before this recent report, there was good reason to believe that the sequel to The Last Jedi would be skipping ahead. For one thing, Boyega said in an interview published back in May that he’d have to grow his hair out for Finn’s next big screen outing, and for that article, they did get a direct quote.

Regardless, you’ll be able to see Finn and the rest of the gang in action when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019. In the meantime, here’s hoping there’s still something to those reports of a behind-the-scenes featurette coming out this month.
