John Krasinski And Emily Blunt Tease Ideas For A Quiet Place 2

While there’s certainly appeal to the idea of A Quiet Place existing in its own isolated bubble of unique logic and untarnished mystery, the fact remains that this film was a box office smash, bringing home an exceptional $338.6 million on a budget of roughly $17 million, and so, by the rules of horror movies, A Quiet Place 2 must be made.

With John Krasinski confirmed to be working on a script, new ideas are currently being thrown around, and in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director and his co-star/wife Emily Blunt gave a few hints of what could be coming our way. For starters, after the first movie ended things on a slight cliffhanger, Blunt has suggested that the follow-up could delve into the past of the Abbott family, but is more likely to show us what’s next.

“In some ways, the idea of seeing who these people were before this all happened would be interesting, but I’m not quite sure because I think actually it’s now what’s the next chapter and what happens next,” Blunt said. “I think people feel very invested in this family…. I think it’s such an open book right now, and certainly for John who is lasering into something as we speak.”

Seeing how the first film has already painted a vivid enough picture of the near-silent day-to-day lives led by these characters, it’s hard to say what a sequel could really add to this saga. Krasinski, however, sees potential in the world the family inhabits.

“This is a world you can play in, this isn’t just a character to remake…. it’s actually a world, which is a whole different, very unique experience,” he explained. “It’s not like Alien or Jaws where the main villain is the thing you’re repeating; it’s an actual entire set of rules and the circumstance that the world has undergone that you can play in very different facets.”

From the sound of things, Krasinski may have found some fresh and intriguing variations on the premise of the first film, and it’s possible that this next outing won’t be a simple case of humans vs. aliens. If so, then perhaps we could expect a story in the vein of George A. Romero’s zombie movies, where the monsters are a mere catalyst in a conflict between the survivors. That’s just one idea of how A Quiet Place 2 could play out, but there’ll be plenty of time for Krasinski to come up with something interesting before the film hits theaters on May 15th, 2020.
