John Krasinski To Play Peter Parker In Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

As you surely know, there's quite a lot going on with the Spider-Man property right now. Of course, Peter Parker himself is swinging around the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his next appearance set to be in Avengers: Infinity War. Beyond that, though, we've also got some stuff coming down the pipeline from Sony. Namely, Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

UPDATE: Sony has reached out to let us know that Krasinski is not involved in the film.

As you surely know, there’s quite a lot going on with the Spider-Man property right now. Of course, Peter Parker himself is swinging around the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his next appearance set to be in Avengers: Infinity War. Beyond that, though, we’ve also got some stuff coming down the pipeline from Sony. Namely, Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The latter has been making headlines lately with some interesting reports, and though it’s still pretty far off, the project is certainly shaping up to be something that Spidey fans are going to want to check out. And that’s because after hearing that Tom Hardy may swing by to voice Venom in the pic (it’s unclear if it’ll be just as a fun easter egg, or if there’s actually some kind of connection between Into the Spider-Verse and Eddie Brock’s standalone outing), we’re now learning that The Office star John Krasinski has boarded the project.

According to Fandom Wire, he’ll be playing Peter Parker in the film and apparently, has already recorded some lines alongside Hardy. Though it’s no secret that Parker will be appearing in the movie, this is the first we’re hearing of Krasinski being the one to voice him, but it does make sense given what we know so far about Into the Spider-Verse.

After all, writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have revealed in the past that this version of the character will be much older than what we’re currently seeing in the MCU. He’s set to act as a mentor to Miles Morales, too, who’ll take the spotlight in Into the Spider-Verse and will be voiced by Dope star Shameik Moore. Beyond that, we don’t know much about what to expect in regards to Parker’s role in the pic or how heavily involved he’ll be, but Krasinski’s a great talent and we’re thrilled to hear that he’s on board.

While we wait to learn more, what we can tell you with absolute certainty is that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on December 14th. It’s directed by Rise of the Guardians‘ Peter Ramsey and Puss in Boots’ Bob Persichetti, with a script from Phil Lord and Chris Miller which is based on a story by them and Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch.
