Another day, another batch of news on Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. The folks over at Hitflix have a slew of new information on the flick. Firming up sketchy story details by fleshing them out, they’ve also named another actor in the running for a role. John C. Reilly, a name you wouldn’t expect, has been offered a part.

Fulfilling a role similar to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Agent Coulson, Reilly is being touted to play Rhomann Dey. If he decides to sign on, it’s likely he’ll be joining the happy Marvel family as he plays another Agent acting as the link between the Guardians and S.H.I.E.L.D. In the comic book canon, Dey was the leader of the Nova Corps who chased a total git called Zorr across the galaxy after he blew up Dey’s home planet.

Another tidbit also surfaced concerning the Guardians script. Drew Pearce, the scribe behind Iron Man 3, was in the running to work on the script’s final polish. Those duties have now been taken on by Captain America: The Winter Soldier writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Guardians is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing elements of Marvel’s Phase Three. The characters assembled thus far include Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora; the adopted daughter of the bonkers Thanos, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Michael Rooker as Yondu.

The report at Hitflix backs up the rumour that Lee Pace is playing a sidekick villain in the film – although we still don’t know for sure which one. The film’s IMDB page states he’s lined up to play Basil Sandhurst aka The Controller; but recent news says that could be hogwash, as he’ll REALLY play Ronan The Accuser. Whoever he plays, it looks like he’ll hook up at some point with Rooker’s villainous space pirate.

Guardians Of The Galaxy is scheduled for release in August 2014.
