Joker And Harley Quinn Movie Rumored To Have Bumped Gotham City Sirens From DCEU Slate

Well, it's certainly been one heck of an insane week for us Batfans. First, we found out that not only is the Joker getting a solo origin movie that doesn’t take place within the DC Extended Universe, but then we also learned that despite Jared Leto not appearing in that particular film, he’s still expected to reprise his role as the Ace of Knaves in Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens.

Well, it’s certainly been one heck of an insane week for us Batfans.

What came as even more of a (welcome) shock was that the as-yet-untitled Joker and Harley Quinn movie that was first teased by DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns at San Diego Comic-Con is moving forward, and that Crazy, Stupid Love filmmakers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are in final negotiations to write and direct.

Now, I’m all for more Harley on the silver screen as soon as possible, especially with Margot Robbie being involved, but also being a huge fan of both Catwoman and Poison Ivy, I couldn’t help but wonder what this meant for Gotham City Sirens. After all, Selina Kyle and Pamela Isley have been around a lot longer than Ms. Quinn and deserve their rightful place in the DCEU.

Well, according to The Tracking Board, those two femme fatales will have to wait their turn, as the site had this to say in their report of last night’s stunning news:

Described as a “criminal love story” in the vein of Natural Born Killers, this project would come on the heels of the characters’ reunion in Suicide Squad 2, and would take the place of Gotham City Sirens, which has been reconceived. That means David Ayer is no longer attached to direct any movies in the DCEU… thank God.

If this turns out to be true, I’ll mostly be let down as a big fan of these characters. On the other hand, I’ve been shuddering at the idea of Ayer giving Catwoman tattoos and a grill for a while now, so I don’t know what to think. Hopefully Warner Bros. makes an official statement before long and actually starts assigning release dates to the various DC films they have in development, because at this point, it’s really getting quite confusing.
