The Joker Stages A Takeover Of Gotham In Extended TV Spot For The LEGO Batman Movie

Zach Galifianakis' Clown Prince of Crime takes center stage in the new and indeed extended TV spot for The LEGO Batman Movie.

Move over, Jared Leto. There’s a new Clown Prince of Crime in town, and he’s ready to stage a hostile takeover of Gotham City.

Flanked by a colorful posse of baddies, Zach Galifianakis’ Joker is not so much the primary villain of The LEGO Batman Movie as he is the catalyst for a city-wide siege, rounding up a rogues’ gallery of antagonists that includes everyone from The Riddler to Calendar Man to the Condiment King. Yes, it seems Galifianakis’ surprisingly sensitive Joker has left no stone unturned in his search for accomplices. Take a peek at the extended TV spot above and see if you can spy some of the many, many Easter eggs and in-jokes littered across Chris McKay’s 2017 spinoff.

Welcoming the return of Will Arnett as a lonely Caped Crusader, The LEGO Batman Movie also features Galifianakis as the pint-sized Joker, and a wonderfully sarcastic Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, Batman and Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler. Elsewhere, Mariah Carey is on board to play Gotham’s Mayor, Michael Cera as a very enthused Robin, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl and, perhaps most excitingly for long-time fans of the World’s Greatest Detective, Billy Dee Williams as the nefarious Two-Face.

With plans already in place for LEGO Ninjago Movie (September 22, 2017) and The LEGO Movie 2 (February 8, 2019), Warner’s animated universe is in the process of gearing up for a bright future riddled with pun-tastic jokes and pantomime characters. The LEGO Batman Movie is the second step in that budding new franchise, and you can look forward to Chris McKay’s standalone pic swooping into theatres in time for February 10, 2017.
