The Avengers 2 is set to film in February 2014 and director Joss Whedon is starting to discuss plans for the highly-anticipated sequel. During the MTV Movie Awards, where the film won Movie of the Year, Whedon revealed in an interview that something “awful” is going to happen to the characters.

You can check out the full interview below but here’s a choice quote:

I didn’t think I was gonna do the second one, but I had an idea for it before I had figured out the first one. You go into a movie not assuming that there’s going to be [another one]. I’ve seen plenty of movies that were the first part of the trilogy that never happened and it’s terrible….You don’t save anything for the trip back. Having said that, though, I did sort of know, ‘Well if they were to come back, I know what’s going to happen… it’s going to be awful. I’m really excited because I’ve gotten to look at everything and see behind the curtain on all the stuff, and Kevin Feige has a really clear vision and runs through all these movies. They’re all very different, but they really are what the next story should be.

It’s reassuring to here that Marvel has everything in order and that they know exactly where their films are headed, they aren’t just flying blind. Then again, when tackling a project like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would be foolish to just kind of wing it, you have to have a long term plan for all these films.

So far, everything has worked out perfectly and even though the universe is continuing to grow and expand, I have full faith that the studio will keep things in order and continue to churn out quality films.

As for the comments about “awful” things happening, well, you can use your imagination for that one. Things got pretty heated in The Avengers so I can’t even imagine what Whedon is going to do for the sequel.

You can check out the full interview below and after you do, head to the comments and let us know what you think will happen in The Avengers 2.
