Meet Dr. Bravestone, Dwayne Johnson’s “smoldering” explorer and one of the key characters anchoring Sony’s upcoming Jumanji sequel.

Emerging onto the interwebs via the actor’s ever-active Instagram feed, this is our first tangible piece of media that’s surfaced for Sony’s long-rumored continuation just as production preps to get underway in Honolulu – not before Guardians and Doctor Who actress Karen Gillan can join the cast, of course.

If you’re of the mindset that Dr. Bravestone is a character name that’s a little on the nose – even for The Rock – we don’t blame you, but it appears there could be more to Johnson’s character than meets the eye.

As ComingSoon notes, the annotation in the top right corner reads ‘Bravestone/Spencer,’ leading us to believe that those early rumors claiming that Jumanji would center on a group of average players who get sucked into the titular game and embody different avatars aren’t too far off base.

Should that hold true, director Jake Kasdan and Co. could be taking Chris Van Allsburg’s 1985 children’s book in a whole new direction, potentially supplanting the magical board game we know and fear with some form of modernized video game alternative. That’s all yet to be confirmed at this early stage, but it’s an interesting line of thinking nonetheless.

Get ready to play the game that plays you. Jumanji roars to life on July 28, 2017 when Johnson and Gillan will be flanked by Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Nick Jonas.
