Calling a wrap on the first day of shooting in Honolulu, Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram in the early hours of yesterday morning – as he often tends to do – to unveil the core cast of Sony and Jake Kasdan’s Jumanji sequel.

Marooned in a jungle without a board game in sight, the picture introduced us to Johnson’s musclebound Dr. Bravestone/Spencer, Professor Shelly Oberon (Jack Black), Moose Finbar (Kevin Hart) and finally, Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan). If those names sound entirely made up, it’s because they likely are (more on that later), but the one big takeaway that sparked conversation online was that of Gillan’s outfit – or lack thereof.

Suited and booted in a costume that wouldn’t look out of place in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, the actress has weighed in on the matter via Twitter, assuring fans that there is a reason behind her “child-sized clothes.”

It’s plot-related, in all likelihood, and considering that Gillan’s character is bearing the frankly ridiculous name of Ruby Roundhouse, our best bet is that the she’s actually portraying some form of avatar produced by Jumanji – be that the traditional board game or some overhauled, modernized version of Chris Van Allsburg’s creation. There’s also the small matter of the film’s first concept art, which at least on the surface, seems to lend weight to that purported story arc.

We’ll find out for sure when Jake Kasdan’s family-friendly adventure – one which also stars Nick Jonas – roars into theaters on July 28, 2017.
