THR is reporting that Juno Temple, who’s starting to build up a nice resume, will star alongside Angelina Jolie in Disney’s Maleficent. The film, which will tell the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty but from the point of view of Maleficent, will be directed by Robert Stromberg.
Confirmed cast members include Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson and Lesley Manville and shooting will begin this Summer in London.
Temple’s role will have her playing a pixie fairie (alongside Staunton and Manville). Together, the three fairies have to take care of Fanning’s Aurora aka Sleeping Beauty.
The young actress is rising through the Hollywood ranks fairly quickly. Audiences will soon see her in Killer Joe (which she’s earned strong reviews for) and of course, she has a secretive role in The Dark Knight Rises.
As for the film itself, the script comes from Linda Woolverton, the same woman behind the horrid Alice in Wonderland, so I don’t have much faith. Plus, Stromberg is a rookie when it comes to directing, which gives me even more reason to worry.
Until we see from footage, I’m going to remain skeptical
