Although Jurassic Park 4 is slated for a June 2014 release, no actual information about the film’s cast, director, or even concept has been revealed. The first news, well rumour really, that we’ve had in a long time comes today with word that the film may be shooting this summer in Baton Rouge. Maybe.
A New Orleans newspaper reports that Universal has reserved stage space at Raleigh Studios in Baton Rouge from April to November of this year. Patrick Mulhearn, director of studio operations, was unable to confirm what exactly Universal will be shooting there, leaving speculation wide open for Jurassic Park rumours. We are glad they are considering bringing more production work to Baton Rouge in the near future, whatever that may be. But nothing is confirmed at this point, and I guess you never really know until the office opens and they start building sets.
On the other hand, Louisiana Entertainment honcho Chris Stelly said that the state has yet to receive any official notice from Universal regarding the project, but that it would be more than welcome. So we do know that Universal is planning on shooting something major at Raleigh Studios, but we still don’t know what. Might as well hope that it’s Jurassic Park.
If a 2014 release date is going to remain even remotely plausible, shooting this summer is basically a must. I’m becoming more and more skeptical that we’re going to see this film in the summer of 2014 considering, as far as we know, it has no director, no cast, and the script isn’t set in stone. That doesn’t sound promising at all.
In other Jurassic Park news, Laura Dern recently told IFC that she’s unsure if she’ll be returning for the fourth film. The way Dern tells it, the story has been in the works for a long time, but it’s constantly evolving, and she legitimately may not know if her character has a role in the film or not. Hopefully, some concrete information about any of the original cast returning comes to light soon.
