It seems dinosaurs aren’t the only threat in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Set a full four years after Universal’s box office titan ($1.6 billion worldwide), the 2018 sequel largely revolves around an erupting volcano, one which leaves the park’s extraordinary wildlife on the brink of extinction…again. Leave it to Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), then, to swoop in and save the day. And that’s where Fallen Kingdom really kicks into gear.
With Blue still roaming the hills of Isla Nublar, Chris Pratt’s dino expert quickly boards the expedition in a last-ditch attempt to save the whip-smart velociraptor before it’s too late. Claire, on the other hand, has developed a newfound respect for the dinos, but according to Fallen Kingdom‘s extended synopsis, a great conspiracy is afoot.
Via Universal:
It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.
The fate of Isla Nublar hangs in the balance, then, leaving the governments of the world facing one question: should these prehistoric animals be preserved? Or left at the mercy of Fallen Kingdom‘s extinction-level event?
It’s a conundrum that will surely draw Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm back into the equation, while we suspect InGen has something to do with that aforementioned conspiracy. Plus, Juan Antonio Bayona did promise a whole new breed of genetically-modified dinosaurs…so there’s that.
The synopsis continues as so:
When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.
With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful series in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before. Welcome to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
True to his word, Bayona will steer Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom toward uncharted territory on June 22nd, 2018. And we can hardly wait.
