Regardless of whether you loved or hated Justice League, we’re all aware of how a fair amount of footage was left on the cutting room floor. Perhaps it was either stuff that was shot by Zack Snyder that Warner Bros. didn’t want to use or, maybe, it just didn’t gel with the final cut; the latter happens all the time in the film industry. Still, there was one omission that remains a hot topic for discussion, that being Superman’s black costume.
For well over a year, many of us who were familiar with the source material expected to see the Last Son of Krypton don some darker threads upon his resurrection, just as he did in the comics. But, in Justice League‘s theatrical cut, the closest we got to that was him wearing some black slacks.
So, while that strange ballad endures, let’s allow the conversation to take a turn for the light-hearted, shall we?
Much like many other superhero movies out there, Justice League contained various Easter eggs for the diehard comic book fan and eagle-eyed viewer to uncover. In this case, it’s proof positive that Christopher Walken’s Continental isn’t the only man of class capable of enjoying some fine champagne.
As it turns out, the very bottle Lex Luthor offered to share with Deathstroke (seen above) – “Gout de Diamants,” or “Taste of Diamonds” – was not only once the most expensive bottle of champagne in the world, but one could also say that it bears some resemblance to what a black-suited Superman would look like, logo and all. So, while we didn’t actually get to see the costume itself in the pic, we did at least get this nice nod to it.
Furthermore, the Zack Snyder-shot stinger makes one call into question how this bonus scene would’ve complemented his original vision. Either way, it’s something to point out once you and your friends sit down to watch Justice League on Blu-ray.
