Now, the Russo brothers have finally revealed the answer. While speaking to Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, the filmmakers confirmed that Langford was brought onboard to play an older version of Tony and Pepper’s daughter Morgan Stark. Though the role was always going to be portrayed by Lexi Rabe for the most part, Langford would have appeared in a vision Tony would’ve experienced following his use of the Infinity Gauntlet.

Prior to his death, he would’ve met with the older Morgan in the Soul World, with the intention being that he was able to see how she turned out and get her forgiveness for his sacrifice before he died. However, test audiences didn’t respond well to the scene so it was pulled from the final cut.

You can hear the Russos explain it in the video below:

You can see why the Russos thought this would be a good idea. In many ways, it’s a smart mirroring of Thanos’ own trip to the Soul World and meeting with his daughter after he snapped his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War. However, the vision of the young Gamora held weight in that movie as we’d previously seen her in a flashback. We wouldn’t have met this older Morgan before so it’s understandable the scene didn’t express the appropriate emotional resonance.

The right decision was made for Avengers: Endgame then and Marvel are now free to cast Langford as Kate Bishop in the MCU, as that idea certainly seemed to go down well with fans.
