While the entire purpose of my existence now rests on eventually getting to see Bill & Ted 3, I suppose that we can allow Keanu Reeves to do other films in the interim. He’s right now featured in Generation Um (see our interview here) and has been cast in the sci-fi movie Passengers opposite Reese Witherspoon. Now Reeves has also signed on to play a former hitman in the revenge tale John Wick.
John Wick concerns said hitman who gets very very upset when a car thief steals his 1969 Ford Mustang (Not the ‘Stang!) and kills the dog given to him by his beloved late wife. Yeah, you do not kill a former hitman’s dog. Wick tracks the little thug down, only to discover that the thug’s daddy is a crime boss and Wick now has a bounty on his head.
John Wick will be directed by a pair, David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, both of whom have stunt/second unit credits on The Hunger Games, The Expendables and After Earth. Leitch is also a stunt coordinator on the Wachowskis’ Jupiter Ascending. While I’m a little unnerved by the notion of not one but two stuntmen taking on directing duties, that at least means that the action is bound to be good.
I continue to have warm, fuzzy feelings for Reeves, despite some less than stellar career choices and perhaps a limited range. John Wick will likely not demand a lot of emoting but plenty of action ability. It sounds perfect for Reeves. Who does not love a revenge thriller where the villain does something so incredibly stupid like killing Keanu Reeves’s dog? That’s kind of like kidnapping Liam Neeson’s daughter. No way this can end well.
John Wick sounds like good fun while we’re waiting on Bill & Ted 3 but still, I don’t want to wait too long.
