John Wick: Chapter 4, packed to the brim with a runtime that’s borderline hilarious for an action thriller (at two hours and 49 minutes, make sure you get comfortable), is just about ready to hit theaters tomorrow, finally continuing the saga of one of the deadliest hitmen to ever grace the big screen.
There won’t be any shortage of bodies or spilled blood in the title hero’s latest outing, but beyond furthering the point that he’s the most dangerous assassin in this dark – almost mythological – world, we’d be remiss to forget that he also happens to be the saddest assassin the world has ever seen.
Indeed, John Wick’s excursions are always propped up by a distinct lack of peace; peace he first lost after the death of his wife, and peace that removed itself from the list of options following the murder of his dog. And with one death leading to another, one has to wonder if this heinous cycle will ever end for the Boogeyman.
According to franchise star Keanu Reeves in an interview with ComicBook, the actor sadly didn’t play coy on how ridiculous of a notion John Wick’s eventual happiness is, noting how that would require his long-dead wife to cheat death after all this time.
“I guess it would have to be a fantasy film, because his wife would be alive and they could live happily ever after.”
We apologize to those who were looking for a more hopeful read, but look at it this way; a happy John Wick means fewer John Wick films, and even though it’s probably going to be a while before we get any substantial info on the fifth film, we’re happy to live in a world with as many entries as possible.
John Wick: Chapter 4 will release to theaters on March 24.
