Domino and Cable, two characters considered to be instrumental in Deadpool 2, have fuelled debates online ever since the turn of the year.

Casting on the David Leitch-directed sequel is still in the early, early stages – the Merc With a Mouth’s founding father, Rob Liefeld, is confident that the appointment of Domino and Cable will be enough to blow people’s minds – but there have been rumblings of former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan landing the role of Nathan Summers. After all, Brosnan was pictured alongside both Ryan Reynolds and Logan star Hugh Jackman not so long ago, indicating that, at the very least, the actor was approached by 20th Century Fox about a potential part.

In terms of Domino, it’s a similar story. The role of Neena Thurman remains vacant at the time of writing, but after Sienna Miller (The Lost City of Z) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw reportedly dropped out of the race, Scandal actress Kerry Washington has emerged as an early frontrunner to land the gig. Indeed, those same rumors linking Washington with the part have also resulted in a batch of stunning fan art that pictures the actress as the badass mercenary known as Neena Thurman.

Does that mean Kerry Washington is all set to sign along the dotted line? Not quite. As the actress reveals to ExtraTV (via Screen Rant), that decision ultimately lies with the Powers That Be.

“I don’t have anything to say about that! [The Deadpool 2 writers] know more than I do. Of course I would [want the part]! But you have to get the right person for whatever role.”

Speaking of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the Deadpool 2 co-writers have hinted in the past that the cameras will begin rolling sometime this year with “lots of characters” in tow. Start getting excited, folks.
