While the first two Thor films struggled to stand out, Thor: Ragnarok is shaping up to be perhaps THE most exciting Phase 3 release. With the God of Thunder set to fight side by side with Mark Ruffalo’s Jade Giant (in outer space no less), it’s going to be absolutely epic, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has now dropped some interesting new details about the movie.
For one, it doesn’t sound as if we should read too much into what the threequel’s title seemingly gives away:
“I don’t think people will read into that title alone [regarding] what the movie’s going to be. It’s going to be, perhaps, as totally different from the two prior Thor movies as Winter Soldier was from the first Captain America. We want to take it to new places, we’ve got new characters that will show how big we’re swinging on this. And we have a Hulk. The film takes place within the cosmos primarily which is to say, frankly, very little Earth.”
As for Spider-Man, Feige didn’t have a lot of new information to offer, but did reiterate that the focus of the character’s upcoming reboot will very much be on the fact that he’s a high school student.
“It’s going to be as big and spectacular a Spider-Man film as has ever been made. But it’s a Peter Parker story and has more opportunity to be focused on the story of a 15-year-old kid going to high school.”
That sounds like the right direction for Spidey, though it’s the comments about Thor: Ragnarok which are arguably most exciting. After all, as great as it will be to have a story featuring the iconic wall-crawler set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s pretty hard to top what sounds like an epic cosmic team-up between Thor and The Hulk, don’t you think?
