Avengers: Endgame wrapped up the storylines for all of the original six, though half of them weren’t so final. Iron Man, Black Widow and Captain America are probably not coming back – at least, chronologically-speaking – but Thor, Hawkeye and Hulk are still around to help save the world in future movies.
For the Jade Giant, though, things are very different now. His ability to smash is much diminished, for one, as his left arm seems to be permanently damaged after using the Infinity Gauntlet. Still, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige appears to have teased that we could see more of Smart Hulk in the MCU over the next few years.
While taking part in his first ever Reddit AMA, one fan asked Feige about the meeting we’ve previously heard about between him and Mark Ruffalo, which spawned a three-movie arc for Bruce Banner. According to Feige, some of Ruffalo’s ideas have yet to be realized on screen.
“Many years ago, Mark came in for a meeting with us at Marvel Studios to discuss ways in which the Hulk could grow and evolve in upcoming films. He pitched a lot of cool ideas, some of which led to what you saw in Thor: Ragnarok, Infinity War and Endgame, and some of which would still be cool to see someday.”
Endgame merging the mind of Banner and the Hulk’s brawn seemed like a perfect way of ending his personal story in the MCU, but there’s still lots of potential to expand the character’s mythos in the franchise. For instance, he could always take on an apprentice in the form of Amadeus Cho’s Totally Awesome Hulk. Or what about Bruce’s cousin, Jennifer Walters AKA She-Hulk?
Speaking of She-Hulk, We Got This Covered previously reported that Marvel was developing a Hulk/She-Hulk team-up TV show for Disney Plus, with Ruffalo expected to reprise his role. There’s been no official confirmation of the series just yet, but who knows, maybe this is what Feige was alluding to in his Reddit reply?
