Kevin Smith Thanked Chris Hemsworth For Fat Thor In Avengers: Endgame

Chris Hemsworth told Jimmy Fallon that Kevin Smith emailed and thanked him for the depiction of Fat Thor in Avengers: Endgame.

Among the more controversial elements of Avengers: Endgame was the depiction of perhaps Earth’s mightiest hero, Thor.

As we all know, the lightning-wielding fighter didn’t take the group’s loss to Thanos all to well. After the snap that took out half of the universe appears to be irreversible, Thor retreats and goes into a deep, beer-filled slumber. By the time Rocket Raccoon and Hulk find him, the God of Thunder’s hair has at least quadrupled in length, and his belly has increased tenfold. The man who was once arguing with Star-Lord over who looked better now had the physical characteristics of the Dude.

Though there was some debate early on – and even those who accused the film of fat-shaming the character – there’s been quite a rally of support for the chubbier hero. And in a recent appearance promoting his new film, Men In Black: International, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Chris Hemsworth included geek icon Kevin Smith in that list of defenders.

“I got an email from Kevin Smith, and he said, you know, ‘Overweight, middle-aged white men are very happy for that new superhero.’” Hemsworth revealed. “So I was like ‘Cool. Happy to help.”

Again, Smith’s the most recent person to come out in support of the God of Thunder’s new look. Recently, Robert Downey Jr. commended Hemsworth for the “risk” he took, and the Russo Brothers have called Fat Thor the most “human version of the character.”

But the praise isn’t only coming from celebrities. Countless numbers of fans have acknowledged and appreciated the different depiction of a superhero – especially one as famous and prominent as Thor – for the same reasons Smith hinted to Hemsworth. It’s even become a hot new cosplay at conventions all over the world.

With all this said, it’s hard to imagine we’ll ever see Thor in his tip-top shape again. But then again, it’s not sounding like a lot of people are too worried about that. If you can’t wait til Hemsworth’s next appearance in the MCU, make sure you get your Fat Thor fix now and see Avengers: Endgame in theaters.
