UPDATE: Deadline is reporting that Universal will make the film and Jeff Wadlow is set to direct. No cast members have been confirmed as of yet but the studio is apparently in negotiations with all of the main stars from the first film.
Original Story:
The sequel to the cult hit Kick-Ass was been thrown into development hell as soon as it was commissioned, thanks to the weak performance at the box-office and writer-director Matthew Vaughn moving onto the X-Men series. While it looked like the film would never end up getting made, there is some hope on the horizon as Comic Book Movie reports that Kick-Ass artist John Romita Jr. has confirmed a May 2013 release for the sequel.
During Romita’s world record attempt for continual sketching and signing autographs, he was asked about Kick-Ass 2 by a Facebook user. In his answer, Romita stated that the deals have been signed and that filming will start in the summer, for a May 2013 release.
Whether he’s accurate or not is still to be seen. There is still no word on who is directing the sequel nor if Chloe Grace Moretz will return as the fan favorite Hit-Girl. Moretz is of course older than she was when Kick-Ass was first filmed and her schedule is quite full.
Romita also mentioned that Kick-Ass 2 will have an animated sequence which he’d like to animate himself.
That’s all the Kick-Ass 2 news we have for now but we’ll keep you updated when we hear more.
