The Kingsman franchise will be expanding beyond the adventures of Eggsy and Harry Hart for its third installment, as The King’s Man promises something very different from what we’ve seen before in the tongue-in-cheek spy franchise. It’s a prequel movie that explores the origins of the secret intelligence organization and takes place in the time of the First World War.

Fox – well, at first, as Disney has owned the franchise since March’s merger – has been keeping a lid on details about the movie up to now. In fact, the title was only officially unveiled last month, after it was thought to be called The Great Game. But now they’re ready to show it off and today the studio’s dropped the first trailer online which teases what appears to be a fun mash-up of period war movie and spy thriller with director Matthew Vaughn’s signature kinetic and flashy style all over it.

As can be seen from the preview, the prequel also has an enviable cast full of as many classy English actors as you’d expect to find in a Harry Potter film, including Ralph Fiennes, Rhys Ifans, Charles Dance and Liam Neeson. Plus, a selection of international talent as well,  like MCU stars Daniel Bruhl and Djimon Hounsou. Meanwhile, Harry Dickson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson play two of the first Kingsman agents.

The King’s Man is clearly very different from past movies, which is something Vaughn has admitted he’s nervous about. The filmmaker even suggested the prequel will appeal to an entirely new audience. “The people who hated Kingsman would probably love it, and all the people who love Kingsman might go, ‘What the hell has he gone and done?’” he explained last month. He did, however, say that he’s “very proud” of the finished product.

Now that we’ve got a glimpse of the film, tell us, are you excited to see The King’s Man in cinemas come Valentine’s Day? Let us know in the comments section below.
