The last few hours have been a wild ride for Star Wars fans. Earlier today, Vanity fair lifted the curtain on a handful of brand new behind the scenes photos for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which were wonderfully captured by legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz. Not only did we get a new look at both Kylo Ren’s and Rey’s brand new costumes (which follow the classic trope of light colors being attributed to protagonists, and dark shades tied to villains), but we also got a glimpse at Luke Skywalker’s return, despite his death in The Last Jedi.
The pictures released by Vanity Fair are a veritable treasure trove of information, and fans are constantly unearthing tiny details and new clues. While I’m sure further theories will continue to surface for quite some time, it turns out you don’t have to look all that hard to notice the return of one of the series’ elite fighting forces.
As reported by ComicBook.com, the mysterious group known as the Knights of Ren will be making a return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Fans might remember the organization from The Force Awakens when they first made their debut. Other than the fact that they’re led by Kylo Ren, not much is known about the elite fighting force, and they’ve remained shrouded in secrecy since they were first shown off. The aforementioned Vanity Fair pictures don’t shed much light on the matter, either, as a lone image shows a few Knights standing around director J.J. Abrams, as he (presumably) provides directions for an upcoming scene.
That being said, we’ll get to see Kylo Ren’s army in action when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th. Personally, we wouldn’t mind an epic showdown or two (or three)!
